Urban Renewal for safety and social sustainability
Hammarkulletorget is being transformed into a safer, more attractive and vibrant meeting place. The new design enhances social interaction, security, and commercial opportunities while reflecting residents' needs and aspirations. A flexible, climate-conscious approach integrates mixed-use buildings, green spaces, and public areas, reinforcing the square’s role as a community hub.

The project was initiated to strengthen Hammarkullen’s safety and social sustainability. A key objective is to improve the area's security and sense of community, ultimately working towards its removal from the police list of particularly vulnerable areas. Through thoughtful urban design, enhanced public spaces, and active street life, the transformation aims to foster long-term social resilience. For us the project began with a winning proposal in an invited competition and continued with the development of a more detailed master plan.

The plan includes 110 new homes, shops, cafés, a market hall, healthcare facilities, and public spaces for recreation. Sustainability is key, with a high proportion of timber construction, reused materials, green roofs, and solar panels. By balancing historical identity with future adaptability, the redevelopment strengthens Hammarkullen’s social and economic resilience.
