Living by the Water – A Sustainable Vision
New residential development in Nacka in the Stockholm archipelago. Located in the eastern part of Boo, on the shoreline of Kilsviken, this project introduces a sensitive densification strategy in line with the municipal master plan. The proposal complements the existing built environment with detached houses and townhouses while preserving the area’s character.
The development centers around a restored historic villa, which will be converted into apartments. Surrounding it, semi-detached houses and townhouses will be carefully integrated into the landscape, offering views of the water from all units. Construction follows net-zero carbon ambitions, utilizing mass timber, solar energy, and energy-efficient solutions. Green roofs manage rainwater, and a biodiverse landscape with local vegetation supports the ecosystem. The historic fruit garden will be transformed into a shared orchard with park-like qualities, featuring communal horticulture, beehives, and play areas. Public access is enhanced through improved pathways, a more active shoreline, and facilities such as an electric boat-sharing system, kayak launches, and a shared sauna. This project balances urban growth with ecological and cultural preservation, ensuring a sustainable community.
