AI Data Center, fully Powered by Renewable Energy
Sierra DC: SP01 in Escúzar, just outside Granada, is being developed as one of Spain’s largest AI-focused data centers. The facility is planned for 100 MW of capacity, fully powered by renewable energy, in a region ranked as the second most productive for solar energy in Europe.
Set on the open plain at the foot of the mountains, the architecture unites local stone with a shimmering steel façade that mirrors its surroundings. The reflective envelope also contributes to reducing solar heat gain and thermal loads on the structure, supporting energy-efficient operation in the intense Andalusian climate. Rooted in Escúzar yet conceived for replication, the design can adapt to new locations through locally sourced stones and contextual adjustments.
The campus is designed for advanced AI training and next-generation cloud and AI services, tailored for hyperscale operators and high-density computing. The project represents an investment of approximately €1 billion, combining scalable infrastructure with responsible resource management and rapid deployment. Koponen Stenqvist are appointed design architects with overall responsibility for architecture, sustainability, and strategic frameworks. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026. An architecture for the intelligence of tomorrow, powered by the sun.
Located in the heart of Andalusia, the Granada datacentre offers exceptional connectivity to major Spanish and European hubs with ultra-low latency. Operations will be entirely based on renewable energy, minimizing environmental impact while maximizing efficiency. Cooling will be provided through a hybrid system combining liquid and air technologies, optimized for AI workloads.
Sierra DC is an independent developer of AI-optimized datacentre campuses in Southern Europe, powered by renewable energy. The Granada site is the first node in a platform focused on high-density infrastructure, responsible water use, and robust capacity for AI, cloud, and enterprise applications.
